DESIGN STRATEGIES FOR NEW URBAN LANDSCAPES
WORKSHOP THEMES
The workshop aims at generating projects of innovative landscaped urbanity (landscape-city): focussing on a renewed relationship to nature, including its artificial expressions (digital, graphic, sculptural, light design….). Several sites in Nordhavnen and other areas of the City will be identified to develop general concepts and site specific projects.
MAIN THEMES FOR SEMINARS AND PROJECTS PROPOSALS
Articulating spatial design in all dimensions: Ground / air / water / facades / vegetal elements..
Defining time based strategies: Short term / long term and temporary
Connecting + Embracing + Including = a public realm able to welcome all speeds / needs / identities.
> Artificial nature: artificial sensations intertwined in the growing nature
Artificial nature: projected and simulated natures = digital street displays / daylight screens / temporary installations / wall paint /
> Natural… nature: key role of trees to re-scale the urban experience = “vegetal urbanism” to shape un-completed, non-compact city and its borders / Decline typology: condensation/wood – alignment/boulevard – cluster/urban oasis.
> Membranes: unfolding perception into built elements, seeing-through = public spaces and follies as membranes / Filters = i.e. sound barriers / Shelters = zen gardens in the middle of the stream / Billboards = inhabitable digital screens / Grafts : facade extensions…
> Up and Down: Articulating the vertical dimensions, i.e. using tube, infrastructures, facades, bridges, roof tops, walls, or pillars as elements for the extension of public space / Developing new footbridges, observatories, tower like elements…
> Interactive landscape: information and digital art displays and devices to emphasize the public realm’s identity and dynamic / A “Tamagochi environment” / hosting the newest urban information displays / Using daylight screens as urban windows.
> Kinetic views: Public realm as a narrative experience / red thread / Travelling across signs and leads = encouraging mobility culture, signage creativity, and art projects relating to movement.
> 2D/3D: Articulating the bi-dimensional with the tridimensional.
Unfolding a common graphic language, from asphalts to light, urban furniture, sign design, follies, vegetation, atmospheric elements.
> Public art: as a tool to renew the idea of public space = a sensitive experience / art as temporary or long term / art as a tactical lift up for transformation / art as the incubator a the new identity of Copenhagen, using new tools and expressions.
> Temporary events: eg. a one night contemporary art festival invading streets, public buildings shop windows, apartments, offices… / Performances, installations : activating the newly designed areas to accelerate the reconstruction of a social identity and memory / Making sections of the public realm pedestrian for events / Events able to stand on national and international level of visibility as well as local attraction.
